Privacy

AI Battle has no user accounts. This page describes everything the site stores about visitors.

Cookies

  • Voting cookie (ab_vid): a random, signed identifier set when you open a page with an open poll (so the vote buttons know whether this browser already voted), vote, beg for a reset or report on the Nerf Meter. It is used only to allow one vote per battle from your browser, to count your browser once toward a reset beg goal, and to keep one Nerf Meter report per model per day from your browser. It contains no personal information, cannot be read by page scripts, and expires after 180 days.
  • No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies are set by this site.

Votes

When you vote we store your choice, the time, and a key derived from the voting cookie and the battle (a keyed hash — the cookie value itself is not stored). We do not store your IP address with votes. Votes are kept with the battle record to protect the integrity of the poll.

To limit abuse, request counts are kept against short-lived keyed hashes derived from your IP address or voting cookie. The hashes derived from your IP address change daily; all of these records are deleted within 48 hours.

Voting, counting a beg toward a goal, a first Nerf Meter report of the day and signing up for email alerts use Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a human is acting. Turnstile is provided by Cloudflare and processes browser signals for that check under Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Begging for a reset

Beg taps are counted as anonymous totals. To count how many people begged since the last reset (one per browser), we store a keyed hash derived from the voting cookie and that reset; it does not contain the cookie value and is different for every reset. Requests are rate-limited the same way as votes.

Nerf Meter reports

When you report how Codex or Claude feels today, we store the report (for example “hit my limit”), the model, the day and a keyed hash derived from the voting cookie, the model and that day. The hash does not contain the cookie value and is different every day, so reports can't be linked across days or to your votes. Only totals are shown. Requests are rate-limited the same way as votes.

The meter also shows public numbers from other sites: new issues per day on the official Codex and Claude Code repositories on GitHub, and OpenAI's and Anthropic's status pages. Fetching them involves no data about you.

Reset alerts

If you sign up for email alerts we store your address, the products you chose and when you confirmed. We email you only to confirm and when a reset happens, through our email provider. If you don't confirm within 7 days, the link stops working and your address is deleted. Every email has an unsubscribe link, which deletes your address immediately.

If you turn on browser notifications, we store the push address your browser gives us (it identifies your browser to its push service, not to us) and the products you chose. Turning them off in the alerts window deletes it immediately. If you only block notifications in your browser settings, we delete it the next time a notification can't be delivered.

Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies or fingerprinting, to count page views, referrers, countries and page load times. It is provided by Cloudflare under Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Videos and external links

Each battle's side-by-side video is served by this site and plays muted when it scrolls into view (or waits for the play button if your device asks for reduced motion). Some battles also link a longer video on YouTube or Vimeo: no player loads until you press play, and YouTube videos use the privacy-enhanced (no-cookie) domain.

The models' builds that you can play are served by this site in a sandbox that cannot read your cookies or this site's data. They may load open-source code libraries from public code hosts (cdnjs, jsDelivr or unpkg), which then see your IP address like any website you visit. Demo and source-code links open external sites with their own policies.

Server logs

Our hosting provider keeps routine request logs for operations and security. Application diagnostic logs exclude secrets, cookie values and raw IP addresses where we control them, and are kept for 30 days or less where configurable.

Your choices

You can delete the voting cookie at any time in your browser. Contact details for deletion requests will be published here.
